Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root ‘yuj’, meaning to ‘yoke’, ‘join together’, a ‘union.’ Yoga encourages the connection between the body, mind and breath. It can help one on many levels, promoting breathing techniques, increasing flexibility, balance, strength and helps boost physical and mental well-being. It is an ancient form of exercise that began in India around 5000 years ago.

According to a sage (Patanjali) ‘Citta Vrtti Nirodhah’ – ‘The restraint of the modifications of the mind-stuff is Yoga.’ (Patanjali, The Yoga Sutras 1:2). Yoga helps to ease those over active thoughts, easing tension in the mind and body, releasing anxiety, great for increasing muscle strength, toning the body and so much more. Yoga begins right where you are on the mat. It also teaches us to live in the present moment, through regular practice one may begin to feel and experience this.
